Mr. Mike Emily and Mrs. Kathy Emily shared a video where they have dinner gathering at their home with their two Friendship sons. The Emily family always show our international students warm hospitality and love to their adopted students from the world. Thank you for sharing this video and letting me know how you are doing for making Friendship Family program joyful and fruitful.
A group of international students put their cheerful moments of life at Lander together into the video. I hope you all enjoy it! Jimin Woo, exchange student from Incheon National University, sings in our 11:00 a.m. Chancel Choir (traditional music) every Sunday at Southmain Baptist Church. Choir Director was very receptive to his joining according to Mrs. Eleanor Teal, Special Assistant to President. Jimin is now going to choir practice on Wednesday nights and singing on Sunday mornings. Feedback to Mrs. Teal from choir members is that he has a perfect pitch, and they are thrilled he has joined. They are also working on Christmas Concert music.
Happy Halloween! Mr. & Mrs. Edward and Jeannie McCallum, who are one of our Friendship Families invited our international students and scholars to their home on October 31. With their warm welcome and hospitality, international students enjoyed their very first Halloween party in the United States. They enjoyed Halloween-themed snacks, S'mores with bonfires and fun games including Mummy and Chubby Bunny. Enjoy our fun and exciting moments with pictures below. International students spent a stupendous time on Saturday, September 28 for Clemson Football Game trip. The weather was pleasant and it was a perfect day for Saturday outing. Can you see how happy we are in the group picture on the left? Our journey has begun with tailgating with lunch boxes and enjoying beautiful scenery by the lake. We enjoyed sandwich lunch boxes with fruits, pasta salads and big chunky cookies for brunch around 10:30 a.m. Everyone looked so happy with their food at the picnic tables and chatting with friends. Then, we took lots of pictures with the beautiful lake view and enjoyed sunshine lying on the deck. What a peaceful and joyful day it was! As our picnic site was about 1 mild away from the football stadium on campus, we took a free shuttle bus to get to Clemson campus. You know what, right after we got off the bus, a lady approached us and said there were free BBQ lunch going on and told us to enjoy them. Wow, can you see the line of our international students? They've just had lunch boxes an hour ago, but they ate second lunch again! Everyone enjoyed their second lunch and looked absolutely satisfied with full stomach and recharged their energy to enjoy the actual football game. By the way, the free meals at the tailgating booth were provided by the Parents Council, and they told us they only provided one meal during the football season and it was today. We were so lucky! Can you imagine how many people showed up at the football game on Saturday? The stadium was almost full which could accommodate 83,000 people and there were countless number of tailgating booths everywhere on campus. And, it was also a Homecoming Day at Clemson so it gave us an astonishing atmosphere with many people, Homecoming displays, tailgating booths, cars and more. It was good enough for us to learn American culture during weekends. Thanks to Football 101 class kindly offered by Dr. Albert Dukes prior to the trip, we could been able to understand basic rules about the football and enjoy it to the fullest. I had to leave the game after the third quarter due to the highly expected traffic jam after the game. However, we all enjoyed the trip to the football game and came home safely afterwards. The Clemson Football Trip this Saturday is around corner. 37 international students and staff are ready to go to Clemson University and enjoy the American Football game on September 28. The Clemson will compete with Wake Forest University. To ensure every participant to understand the American Football rules and its culture, we took Football 101 session delivered by Dr. Albert Dukes, Assistant Professor in Chemistry today. He is a Clemson graduate and a devoted fan for the Clemson Football Team. Dr. Dukes is nice enough to offer this special session for international students. He took our previous international students to the Clemson game last year as well. International students were very excited about the fun trip this Saturday and ready to experience American culture and people. It is expected that there will be more than 83,000 people who will watch the game and come for tailgating. Also, this weekend is the Homecoming weekend for Clemson University. Homecoming floats will be displayed and lots of vendors and events will be held on top of the football game. We will get back with you lots of fun pictures after the trip. Cheers!
