Sung-Jae Park PH.D.
Senior Advisor to President

In January, 2011, Dr. Sung-Jae Park came out of retirement, at the request of Lander University’s President, Dan Ball, to head up Lander’s new International Program. Dr. Park served 35 years Ball State University, Indiana to develop international programs and has been very successful. He received two bachelor degrees from two universities in Korea; a master’s degree from Ball State University; and his doctoral degree from The Ohio State University.
One of the most distinguished achievements of his career has been helping many young people to study in the United States and abroad. Many of his students are now teaching in Korea, China, Japan and the United States. The following is a quote from one who knows Dr. Park and his life’s work: “One of his life principles is to bring light into the lives of others without seeking personal recognition, helping those who were unable to reach their dreams and to accomplish their dreams. Many students might have not been able to finish their degree from the USA if Dr. Park had not helped them. They are now outstanding individuals in their own nation, Korea, Japan, and the People’s Republic of China,”
Dr. Park coordinated and sponsored training programs for visiting scholars from Korea, China, Japan, Indonesia, and Russia. He also hosted and coordinated various community-university based programs and activities for international businessmen and institutional delegations from Korea, China, Japan, Indonesia, Russia, and other organizations such as Seoul Olympic Organizing Committee, All-China Sports Federation, and Indonesia Olympic Committee.
Dr. Park has served the Republic of Korea as a member of the President’s Advisory Council for the Unification of Korea since 1996. He has served various professional organizations in numerous positions including Advisor for 1986 Asian Games Scientific Conference; and 1988 Olympic Games Evaluation Committee. Dr. Park is 8th degree black belt in Judo and was known as Father of Indiana Judo.
Upon his retirement, Ball State University established the Sung-Jae Park Scholarship Fund to help students and faculty around the globe, particularly those who come from Asian nations and the United States.
