April 30, We Arrived in Korea safely! After 15 hours-long flight, 10 Asia Summer Study Program team members arrived in Korea with warm welcome from University of Incheon staff and student ambassadors. Thanks for the team members for being patient and endure the long journey to Korea!
We left Greenwood at 6 am on April 29, Sunday with the Bearcat Bus and arrived in Atlanta International Airport around 10 am. We had enough time to check in and enjoyed time to wait for our flight. We used Korean Airline and it was a direct flight from Atlanta to Incheon, Korea. There was no delay, and we arrived in Korea as scheduled. Upon arrival, Mr. Choi, Director for International Programs at University of Incheon and student ambassadors warmly welcomed us at the airport and arranged a school bus for taking us to nice dinner and university guest house. For dinner, we went to the Korean restaurant serving Bulgogi, Korean BBQ. It was amazingly delicious, and all team members enjoyed the food to the fullest. Here's the list of food we ate: raw beef, Bulgogi, Chopchae(glass noodle with vegetables), Nangmyon (cold noodle), and more. It's time to rest. Our actual itinerary will begin from tomorrow. We're very excited and ready to experience Korean culture, language, people, and especially food. It's a trip of lifetime! Here are some more pictures to look at below. |
May 1, The City of Incheon Invasion! We completed our second day at University of Incheon successfully. I'd like to start today's blog with Rachael's quote, "When are we going to be not excited?" The answer is simple. We won't ever be unexcited! Our journey's just sta.
In the morning, every member showed up in the kitchen early enough so that I could have a nice breakfast and a good dialog with one another sharing our excitement about our first schedule. We met Dr. Kim, Dean for International Affairs and Dr. Ahn, University President. We were very honored to be introduced to Mr. President and we even got a nice gift from the university. Thank you so much! |
May 2: Presentation about Lander & IncheonWe had a precious time for exchaging Amercian and Korean culture. Our Asia Summer Study Program delegation made presentations about Lander University, Amercian culture, university campus life, and the city of Greenwood for University of Incheon students. In return, Korean students introduced the history about University of Incheon and Korean culture. It was great opportunity for our team to get to know more about the Korean culture and especially great moment to have a close contact with Korean students.

May 3: Korean War Memorial Museum and Seafood Market
We had good time with University of Incheon Support Commitee members, who are similar to University Ambassador at Lander. They went to the Incheon Civic Museum, the Commemoration Museum for Incheon Landing, and Seefood Market, Soraepogu with the students and the staff from International Programs. You know what, we all tried live Oxtopus at the seefood restaurant for dinner. All team members are brave enough to try and eat everything offered to us. I am so proud of them. Please check out more pictures below.
We tried LIVE octopus. It was pretty good..! :-) They're still moving. Look at Josh's face!

May 8: DMZ Tour (Korean Demiliterized Zone)
5/8/12- Rachael Stansfield
Today we were at the DMZ, said goodbye to our Korean buddies over dinner and sang karaoke with them. It was a fun day over all, but we will miss our buddies and want to see them again soon!
Tomorrow we head off to the temple stay, it should be an experience.

May 11: Trip to Chuncheon
Lander delegation arrived in the second delegation, Chuncheon safely. Seongsu High School staff and teachers welcomed us so warmly. On May 11, Friday, we went to Mt. Sorak and Naksan Temple near the East Sea. The weather was crisp and cool enough to enjoy the scenic view. Ms. Sunyoung Park, English teacher, prepared even a snack bag with delicious brownie, banana, mandarine orange, and more. Thanks, Ms. Park! Also, Mr. Min, Vice Principal accompanied with us, and showed his warm heart to take care of Joshua's scar in his knee. You can check out more beautiful stories in the pictures!
May 12: Visit to the Nami IslandIn the morning, our delegation members had a good job on introducting Lander University to the Seongsu High School students. They were so attentivie to our presentation. We were so surprised that many students came to see our presentation even though it was Saturday. In the afternoon, we went to the beautiful island called Nami Island. It was a tourist attraction where many foreigners visit. Please check out some more pictures!
