Hey, y'all. My name is HaYeon Kim and Jisu Choi from Incheon National University in South Korea. I am one of the 20 Korean student delegation for American Language and Cultural Studies Program at Lander University. It's been already two and a half weeks since I came to Lander University.

I was very happy and thanked for giving me a chance to be interviewed on the WCRS AM Radio Show. It will be an unforgettable memory to me. We had an interview at an antique shop, not a radio station, so it was very special. There are many beautiful antiques. The DJ, Ms. Anne B. Eller is a humorous woman who has a big and beautiful smile.

She asked me many interesting questions and we had a great time to talk with one another. I shared my opinions with many people, so I felt very excited. She asked us about differences between Korean and US cultures and we talked about food portions, public transportation, education, characteristics of people, favorite experience in the US and more. It was a great time and time flied so fast. It was an one-hour-long show but I felt it felt like a minute. I bet that this means we really enjoyed the time being there. Thanks for making me a lifetime experience at Lander!

How to exercise a weighted authority, serene and effective? First secret: congruence. In other words, banish it: "Do what I say, do not do what I do!" In his book "What landmarks to give to our children?" (1), the psychologist Jean-Luc Aubert insists on this point. To say no more than thirty times a day, to always formulate the same prohibitions is certainly a thankless role. However, no child integrates fuzzy, fluctuating, ambiguous, random, arbitrary or equivocally formulated rules without conviction of their merits. If he doubts the determination of his parents to enforce them, it's a failure!

Third imperative: the respect of the places of each one. The authority must rely on the age difference. Children, even very mature, are not miniature adults. To treat them as pseudo-equals, as friends, as confidants only makes them anxious. The generation gap helps them to organize themselves. These principles are valid regardless of the age of the child. Only the nature of the forbidden to pose will evolve. Easier said than done, do you think? True. That's why we chose some typical scenes of everyday life. No to give miracle solutions, there is none. Only a few landmarks.

Before 2 years
When the child begins to walk and touches everything - the exploration phase - the first prohibitions must be formulated to guarantee his safety. Encourage him to discover but tell him about the dangers. Feel free to say no: even if he does not answer you yet, he understands you very well.

From 2 to 3 years
- He says no to everything
"He says no to do yes," said Francoise Dolto. This is the phase of separation-individuation. If, whatever you propose to him, the child refuses systematically, it is to better distance oneself and assert one's identity. It is therefore necessary to rejoice and not to be catastrophic. Strive to be flexible, to thwart his obstinacy by drawing his attention to another activity, the rigidity and the balance of power leading to failure. When you forbid him to cross the street or touch the electrical outlet, explain that it is to protect him, not to arbitrarily impose his will.

- He beats other children, he bites, he breaks their toys
Be very firm: "It is forbidden to hurt others and oneself!" The prohibition of violence is fundamental. It is the "psychic framework" thanks to which the child will be an adult respectful of the laws and the social order, recalls the therapist Patrick Delaroche. But do not punish him by the law of retaliation. Biting a child to show him what it does is closer to sadism than well understood authority! Better just explain to him that the blows hurt.

- He refuses to eat
Stuffing food is a fairly common way of pressure. The child has the chic to tickle his parents where they are vulnerable. The more anger you react, the more you will try to force or amuse him by "flying", the more he will refuse. Do not make it an issue, otherwise meals may become chores instead of being fun times. Make the truce, eat a good appetite in front of him, vary the dishes and the tastes you offer him and let him eat his fill.
